“Remembering YoU,” supported by the Georgetown Humanities Initiative and HumanitiesDC, is a community-driven archival initiative created to preserve the rich history of the greater U St neighborhood and empower local residents to retake control of the narratives shaping their histories and neighborhoods in the face of gentrification. On November 8-9, we have the launch of this initiative with a two-day fair in the neighborhood. Learn about digital technologies at our Data DiscoTech; see an exhibition of archival photos or a demonstration of kung fu and African drumming or Capoeira Angola; learn about the history of the church or labor in the neighborhood; listen to jazz or enjoy a screening of documentaries; take a walking tour or visit a museum; take part in a discussion with scholars, artists and activists on art, history and gentrification in the digital age; participate in community archiving; or grab a discounted half-smoke while you play neighborhood trivia! All events are free and open to the public: https://rememberingyoudc.com/nov-8-9-event-itinerary/
Celebrate the history of the neighborhood, learn about how to preserve it and get involved! Please join us, spread the word and register online: https://rememberingyoudc.com/event-registration/
